We may be biased, but we have always believed Philadelphia is home to some of the most beautiful weddings in the country. We experience this nearly every weekend during our various wedding seasons as we traverse the city, the suburbs, and even the Shore as we plan and design weddings for our couples. There are countless options for wedding venues, and there are so many talented wedding professionals ranging from photographers to florists, bands and DJs to stationery designers (and everyone in between!) more than willing to serve couples to the best of their ability. Aside from the happiness of our couples, one of the most rewarding things we can do is share their weddings with other newly engaged brides and grooms. And, Philadelphia just debuted a new wedding magazine!
We’re so thrilled to welcome the newest arm of the Modern Luxury brand, Modern Luxury Weddings Philadelphia, to our home city and Tri-State area! And, what’s even more gratifying is having the great honor of introducing Alana Tosti to you. Alana is the Editor in Chief of Modern Luxury Weddings Philadelphia and a Contributing Editor for Philadelphia Style, and she has an eye for design, a knack for curating weddings and shoots that are as beautiful as they are inspiring, and the ability to source some of the best local details.
As we celebrate Modern Luxury Weddings Philadelphia’s debut issue (it launched in Barnes and Noble yesterday!), we thought we would turn to Alana for this month’s Styled Day feature. Below she shares how she balances her writing career while raising her two boys, and we are so excited for you to get to know Alana.
As a stay-at-home mom of two boys, and a freelance editor, my days are all very different – and definitely crazy!
9 AM – 11 AM: One is off to school and one is napping (with a quick stop at Starbucks in between). I catch up on emails and plan social media posts. I manage the @modluxweddingsphl Instagram and Facebook pages, so I’m always scouting Instagram for gorgeous photography from local vendors or checking out who tagged us in their photos for a repost. Recently, during #NYFBW, I was getting live text updates from our team at the shows – so I could share them with our Instagram followers immediately!
I’m also currently looking through spring weddings that have been submitted so far. Looking at beautiful weddings never, ever gets old! We can include weddings that took place from March through August in our December (Spring/Summer) issue. 11 AM – 1 PM: While I am picking up every piece of food that the baby threw onto the floor from lunch, I get a phone call from a local photographer. She is calling to talk about an idea she has for our Details, Details section in the next issue. I love the idea and we decide to talk about it more next week.
My favorite part about this job is the creativity in just about every conversation. I love that Modern Luxury Weddings Philadelphia has so many opportunities to make our local wedding professionals shine – including publishing styled shoots!
1 PM – 2 PM: Soccer practice. More multi-tasking and catching up on emails again. I’m working on an upcoming segment for CBS Philly. I’m really excited about selecting some Jimmy Choo pumps in ombre crushed glitter from Neiman Marcus.
2 PM – 4 PM: Back home for a conference call with my managing editor, photo editor, and designer, all based in our Chicago office. We are discussing the layouts for the upcoming Fall/Winter issue and what photos the team likes best.
Evening: The busy day is done. Depending on what deadlines are approaching, I spend 1-2 hours of uninterrupted time at night writing, editing and seeing how the issue is coming together. I love this quiet time at the end of the day!
