It is time once again for our monthly series, Styled Spotlight, where we are asking one creative wedding professional a series of questions so you can learn how they got started, why they love what they do, what they love most about Philadelphia, and more. Today we talk with Amy Haaz, Web Stylist, at BHLDN.
1. Let’s get to know you! Tell us a little bit about your background and how you started working in the wedding industry.
As a true lover of love, I started out as an assistant wedding planner. Getting to be a part of a couple’s biggest day is such an incredible honor. Now, being able to help a bride choose the dress she’ll walk down the aisle in is a new and equally heart-warming job!
2. What do you love most about weddings in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia offers such a wide array of venues to suit so many different wedding styles. Farms in Lancaster for the rustic romantic bride, lush gardens for the boho babe and city spots with amazing skyline views for the neo-sophisticate. We have it all!
3. How would you describe BHLDN’s aesthetic?
We offer a curated assortment for the bride in search of unusually beautiful, vintage-inspired things. Always pretty and usually sparkly!
4. What is one piece of advice you hope to impart on brides about choosing gowns and styling weddings?
It’s okay to come in with a vision but be open to trying new things – silhouettes, fabrics, etc. You almost always surprise yourself!
5. What are your top three favorite ways for brides to style their bridesmaids?
3 words: Mix. It. Up! You no longer have to commit to a single style in a single shade. Create variation by mixing and matching shades and playing with texture. We love adding in beaded numbers for shots of shimmer. A print is also a great shout-out to your MOH!

1.Wedding or Fashion element that always catches your eye?
Embroidery and embellishments! Sequins, feathers, appliqués… I’ll take one of each please! I’m a bit of a magpie in that way.
2. Favorite gown from BHLDN’s summer collection?
Choosing just one is so hard but I do have a special place in my heart for all things Catherine Deane. (I wore her for my own wedding!) She’s one of our favorite UK designers. Her new floral-dotted Ashton is a garden party dream!
3. Wedding accessory brides can’t live without?
A fabulous headpiece! Whether it’s a statement halo, a sparkly comb or a frothy veil, this is the time to go for it! When else do you get to wear such a special piece?
4. Moment at a wedding?
The big intro! The newlyweds are introduced and the party officially starts-hooray! Plus, the first-dance that usually follows always brings happy tears to my eyes!
5. Hidden gem in Philadelphia?
Halloween, a jewel box of a shop, sells the most unique gems in town. Hello, vintage engagement rings!
